Declyn “Dex” Lauper, the son of famed pop icon Cyndi Lauper, will not be serving time in prison over his 2024 gun-related charges. As per the latest reports, Lauper pleaded guilty to the charges almost two years after the incident actually happened. He reportedly struck a deal which ensures that while he remains under probation, he will not have to spend any time in jail.

The New York Post reported that as per the plea deal, Lauper will remain under probation. Some of the other terms of his plea deal include remaining completely arrest-free for at least a year. Not only that, but he has also been ordered to attend substance abuse treatment.It was also stated in the report that after a year, when all terms are fully met, he will be able to plead for his charge to be dropped to a non-violent felony. Namely, he would be allowed to plead for his charge to be changed to criminal possession of a firearm.If he had been convicted at trial, he would have had to serve 7 years in jail.

In 2024, Lauper was taken into custody after the shooting of a 24-year-old man in Harlem. It was stated in the report that at the time, Lauper had a fanny pack on him that contained a gun. This resulted in a criminal complaint being filed, which was increased by two charges based on the the statement that he had the gun “with intent to use it unlawfully against another.”
