Halloween Day is a Christian festival celebrated on the last Sunday of October.  There are different types of festivals of different religions such as Holi, Rakhi, Dussehra and Diwali in Hindus, Independence Day, Republic Day etc. as a national festival and many other festivals are celebrated, Eid-ul-Fitr in Islam.  , Bakrid, Muharram etc. and Vaisakhi in Sikh, Guru Nanak Jayanti etc. Similarly, many types of festivals are celebrated in Christians such as Christmas, Good Friday and Easter and one of their festivals is also Halloween Day.  This festival is mostly celebrated by people of America, England and European countries, but this festival has started from Ireland and Scotland. 

Brief Information about Halloween Day 

Halloween Day is also known as All Hallows Evening, AllHalloween, All Hallows Eve and All Saints Eve.  This day is the last day of the Celtic calendar.  Therefore, among the Celtic people, it is celebrated as the beginning of the new year.  The various peoples we now refer to as “Celts” formerly lived throughout Europe, but over time are known to inhabit areas such as Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, and Cornwall. 

When is Halloween Day and Date in 2021?  

Halloween Day is celebrated every year on the last day of the month of October.  This year in 2019, Halloween Day will be celebrated on 31 October 2021, Wednesday.

According to history, about 2000 or more years ago, the famous religious festival ‘All Sets Day’ was celebrated on 1 November in the countries of the whole of Northern Europe.  But according to some other sources, the history of Halloween was related to the ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. 

On this day people who believe in Gallic traditions celebrate this festival and it is the last day of the harvest season and from this day the cold season begins.  They strongly believe that on this appointed day the souls of the dead arise and appear on the earth to create trouble for the living souls.  To ward off these evil spirits, people wear demon-like clothes.  Apart from this, the bonfire is lit and the bones of the dead animals are thrown in it.  The peoples of modern Irish, Welsh and Scots are said to be descendants of the Celtic peoples as their Gallic languages. 

Halloween Day Also Known as All Saints Day

It is also called All Saints Day which is celebrated on 1 November which was created by Christians for the conversion of pagans.  All Hallows Eve is the evening before All Saints Day.  Which is now known as Halloween Eve.  Idols were worshiped in this festival, but some popes tried to mix it with other Christianity, and the result was that All Saints Day and Halloween Day came to be celebrated on the same day. 

How to celebrate Halloween Day?

People celebrate Halloween Day with many traditions and customs – 

  • Trick and Tratting 
  • Various costumes 
  • Making a Jack O-Lantern 
  • Sports and other activities 
  • Cooking a variety of food 
  • Trick and Treating 

This is a very simple way to celebrate Halloween day, in which some people wear scary clothes, and go from house to house and give some candy as gifts.  On this day children go from house to house carrying a bag shaped like a Pumpkin and they ask the owner of the house, trick or treat?  During this, some people scare as ghosts, while some distribute candies and celebrate happiness. 

Various Costumes (Halloween Day Theme)

On this day people wear different types of costumes which are according to the culture of this festival.  On this day people’s clothes are like demon, devil, ghost, vampire, grim reaper, monster, mummy, skeleton, vampire, warlock, werewolf and witch etc.  And people scare others by wearing such clothes. 

Making a Jack O’-Lantern 

According to Irish folklore, it is customary to make a Jack O-Lantern on Halloween.  People carve eyes, nose and mouth in hollow pumpkin, then place candle inside it, and make their face scary.  After this, this carved pumpkin is collected and buried. 

Sports and other Activities 

On this day people play many games in the party of Halloween Day, out of which the most played game is dunking or apple bobbing which is called ducking in Scotland.  In which the apple is floated in a tub or large basin of water and then the participants have to remove it with their teeth.

Apart from this, many games are also played.  There are also some traditional activities on Halloween such as prophecy.  According to this activity and to find out about their future husband or wife, make an apple in a long strip, then toss its peel on one’s shoulder and drop it.  If the peel falls on the ground in the shape of a letter, then it is said that it is the first letter of his partner’s name.

This is a different type of activity, which is played by unmarried girls.  Apart from this, many other types of games and activities are played, in one of which they believe that when they sit in front of a mirror for a long time in a dark room, they believe that their future companions are in the mirror.  face is visible.

On Halloween Day, people from different places celebrate the party by making different types of dishes, some of which are as follows-

Also Halloween theme shaped candies, Halloween cakes, novelty candy shaped like skulls, pumpkins, bats and insects etc., Pumpkin, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Bread, Popcorn, Pound Cake, Ramekins stuffed with Pumpkin Puree, Roasted  Pumpkin seeds and sweet corn and spirit cakes etc.  All these types of dishes are also eaten on Halloween day.  Apart from this, in today’s time, people celebrate Halloween day as a fun.
