Pizza Day 2021: Today’s Doodle of Google is quite unique.  Today, the world’s most popular dish Pizza Day is being celebrated by Google.  In fact, on this day in 2007, the Neapolitan “Pizziulo” recipe was included in the UNESCO Representative List.  It was described as the intangible cultural of humanity.  This is the reason why today’s popular pizza dish has been included in Google Doodle.  Google Doodle includes 11 of the most loved pizza toppings from around the world with a puzzle and users have to cut the pizza into slices according to what type of pizza it is.  The more accurate your slice, the more stars you’ll be able to get. 

Among the 11 pizzas that a user has to cut, there are many pizzas, which are as follows-

Pizza Day 2021: Although flatbreads with toppings have been consumed for centuries in ancient civilizations from Egypt to Rome, the southwestern Italian city of Naples was widely recognized as the birthplace of pizza (dough with tomatoes and cheese) in the late 1700s.  is referred to as.  The method of making pizza has been changing from time immemorial with economic development.  At present, about five billion pizzas are eaten internationally every year.  The same is the consumption of 350 slices per second in the US alone.

Pizza Day 2021: Modern pizza is believed to be a product of Italy.  Pizza was first invented in the Italian city of Naples in the 18th century.  Even though pizza may be out of reach for the poor today, its early versions were made for the poor.  Two-and-a-half hundred years ago, Naples was counted among the big and prosperous cities of Europe.  Economic activity was at its peak at that time.  So the city was full of merchants and farmers.  A large number of poor laborers from nearby towns and cities also came to Naples in search of employment and lived there for several days.  He was always in search of cheap food.  Vendors selling roadside food completed their search.

They would take large flat breads and put some cheap vegetables or meat toppings on them.  According to the needs of the workers and their budget, they cut a portion of the flat bread with toppings and gave it to them.  Workers would often go to work after eating it in breakfast.  Due to this, their stomach would also be full for a long time and they also had to reduce the expenditure.  The cheapest toppings would have been salt, garlic and pork.  Other toppings would have been ‘casiocavallo’ (a cheese made from mare’s milk), tomatoes, fish, pomodoro pasta and black pepper. 

Pizza Day 2021: History and mystery of Margherita Pizza

The modern pizza was originated in Naples, Italy by Rafael Espiocito, a baker.  King Umberto I and Queen Margarita visited Naples in 1889.  He was fond of French food.  That’s why he was served French food most of the time.  But they got upset after eating the same food.  He asked the local authorities in Naples to feed him something that was new to him.

Then Rafael Espiocito was called.  Raphael made three pizzas for the King and Queen.  One was topped with pork, caciocavallo and basil.  The second had a fish called whitebait and the third was topped with tomato, mozzarella (a cheese made from Italian buffalo milk) and basil.  Queen Margarita especially liked the third pizza.  In memory of this and in honor of Queen Margarita, the third pizza was named ‘Pizza Margarita’.  It is still one of the most popular pizzas eaten around the world.

By the end of the 19th century, the number of people coming to America from Italy started increasing.  These people also took the recipe of making pizza with them to America.  In the year 1905, ‘Lombardy’, the first restaurant to serve pizza, opened in New York City.  Pizza was soon served in many places throughout the United States, with special attention to local tastes.

In the 1950s, the expansion of economic activity and technological changes led to the introduction of frozen pizza.  The tomato slices were replaced by tomato paste to keep the pizza from drying out during cooking.  New types of cheese adapted for freezing were also introduced.

In the 1960s, two brothers, Tom and James, bought a small pizza chain called ‘Dominix’ in Michigan.  They ensured fast home delivery of pizza.  This soon made ‘Dominix’ popular.  ‘Dominix’ was renamed ‘Domino’s’ in 1965.  At this time Domino’s had three stores.  That’s why three dots were also put in its ‘logo’.  Domino’s became a well-known name first in America and then around the world.  Today it is the world’s number one pizza chain in terms of sales with 16,000 stores. 

What is the Neapolitan ‘Pizzaullo’ recipe? 

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), “The Neapolitan art of ‘pizziolo’ is a culinary practice consisting of four distinct steps relating to preparing the dough and baking it in a wood-fired oven, one of which includes  Rotational Movement by Baker.” This further suggests that the element originates in Naples, the capital of the Campania region, where about 3,000 pizzaioli now live and perform.  Pizzaioli is a living link for related communities.  According to UNESC, there are three primary categories – master pizzauolo, pizzauolo and baker – as well as families in Naples who reproduce art in their homes.
