International Day of Non Violence, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is celebrated all over the world on 2 October. In India it is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti. The United Nations General Assembly on 15 June 2007 declared 2 October to be the "International Day of Non-Violence". In January 2004, Iran's Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi suggested celebrating "International Day of Non-Violence".
