UIDAI's big decision Aadhaar card updates will now cost more, Read 5 updates

If you’re considering making any changes to your Aadhaar card, this news is for you. UIDAI has increased the fees for Aadhaar-related services. These new rates came into effect today, October 1st.

UIDAI has increased these fees after almost five years. There will still be no fee for making a new Aadhaar card. This increased fee applies to those who make any changes (name, address, biometrics, or other details) to their Aadhaar card after it has been issued.

Major relief and rules for children

UIDAI has made a major change regarding biometric updates for children and adolescents. Biometric updates will now be free for children and adolescents aged 5 to 7 and 15 to 17 years. Previously, a fee of ₹50 was charged. It will be mandatory for those in these age groups to make biometric updates.  Aadhaar cards will remain free for newborns. Their first biometric update is mandatory upon reaching the age of 5.

There will be no fee for this service.

UIDAI has not increased the fee for home service updates. The fee for updating Aadhaar cards by having a machine delivered to your home or a specified address remains ₹700. This facility is available by emailing UIDAI.

Aadhaar Card New Rules: A new rule regarding biometric updates to Aadhaar cards has come into effect, making compliance mandatory from today. From today, only the new documents specified for updating addresses on Aadhaar cards will be valid.

Fees for Biometric Updates

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) CEO Bhuvneshwar Kumar held a meeting last week and decided on the biometric update for Aadhaar cards.  According to the new order, starting October 1, 2025, the ₹50 fee for biometric updates will no longer be charged. However, this rule will apply to children aged 5 to 7 and adolescents aged 15 to 17. It has also been directed that biometric updates will be mandatory for children and adolescents even if the fee is not charged.

New Documents for Address Updates

It should be noted that the mandatory documents for changing the address on the Aadhaar card have also been changed from October 1, 2025. Although the new rule came into effect in January 2025, updated instructions have been issued for October 1, stating that a bank statement or electricity bill will now be required to update the address on the Aadhaar card. A PAN card, voter ID card, and birth certificate will be required for identification, and a birth date update will be required.

Updating a 10-Year-Old Aadhaar

It should be noted that starting October 1, 2025, people will be required to update their 10-year-old Aadhaar cards.  You can apply for this by logging in to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website. After online registration, take your documents to the contact center and complete the necessary procedures to update your Aadhaar card.

These 2 things will no longer be included in Aadhaar.

It should be noted that the new Aadhaar card will no longer have a Care of column, nor will the husband’s or father’s name be mentioned. Instead, UIDAI will record these details in its internal records, but will not display them on the Aadhaar card. This rule applies to men and women aged 18 years and above to maintain privacy.

Birth Day format changed in the new Aadhaar card. It should be noted that the birth date will now appear in a new format on the new Aadhaar card. The full date of birth will no longer be mentioned, but only the year of birth. UIDAI will record the full date of birth in its internal records to prevent personal data from being stolen through the card.
